About our Data

  • Our data comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare's Personal Care Home Directory
  • Homes are sorted based on the number of violations and their severity, with the best homes appearing first
  • Click on a home's name to see all violations; click on Map for directions; press the search button to do a Google search on the home's name and zip code.

Tips on Selecting a Home

  • Visit the home. No statistical information about a home, including our reports, can replace a personal site visit, including conversations with the administrators and other residents. Check the home and see if it looks like a place you'd be comfortable living.

  • View the details. No matter what the home, it is vital to check its rating on our site and view the detailed report. It's useful to use the ratings on the site to create a short list of homes, but once you have it you should view the details on each one to find out what, if anything, the home has to say about the problems, and how they are being addressed.
  • These ratings are snapshots, generally coming from annual visits to each home.
  • Past performance is no guarantee of future results, but in the personal care home industry performance is usually consistent over time.
  • We'd appreciate feedback. Drop us a line with your comments and ideas. If you spot an error, please let us know and we will verify and fix it if justified.

We hope this information makes it easier for you to make an informed choice of a nursing home or assisted living facility.
